YCAB Global Dignity Day Campaign Report

The first ever Global Dignity Day was commemorated in Indonesia, conducted by Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (Loving the Nation’s Children Foundation) at two locations on October 20, 2008.

The first event was held at the Nusantara High School (Legoso Street #35, Ciputat, Jakarta), with the theme of “Global Dignity Day: Peace and YADA Anti Drug Campaign with Saykoji” was attended by more than 2,000 audiences from 9 AM-1PM. That theme was especially chosen to correlate the Global Dignity Day with YCAB anti-drug campaign by giving teens the dignity to make the right choices in their lives and respect their peers who are struggling with drugs problems.

The event was officially opened by the CEO of the school foundation, and afterward the students celebrated the day with art performances such as traditional art dance, martial art, cheerleading, modern dance and musical bands. At the climax of the event, YCAB’s Campaigner led the students to read the five Global Dignity principles, which are:

    • - Every human being has a right to lead a dignified life.
    • - A dignified life means an opportunity to fulfill one’s potential, which is based on having a human level of health care, education, income and security.
    • - Dignity means having the freedom to make decisions on one’s life and to be met with respect for this right.
    • - Dignity should be the basic guiding principle for all actions.
    • - Ultimately, our own dignity is interdependent with the dignity of others.

YCAB’s campaigner made a clear connection between the Global Dignity Day and event the anti drug message. A message that emphasized youth to live a dignified life; youth are respected by choosing to live a healthy lifestyle without drugs and by giving dignity back into the lives of their peers who perhaps are battling with drug addiction.

Some of the students were given the opportunity to give their testimony. Testimony on how to lead a dignified life without drugs and other negative behaviors. With Igor ‘Saykoji’ (a young Indonesian celebrity rapper) performing, the launch of GDD was also celebrated by the performance of two other young group bands, ‘Freya’ and ‘Mineral’.

The second event, held at the WTC Serpong Mall, was served with a different flavor. Twelve group bands nurtured by YADA Club (YCAB’s Youth Center), launched their compiled album in front of 1000 audiences. Through YADA Club, these youths were given opportunity to explore and expand their talents in expressing themselves through positive activities and healthy lifestyle. After a few words of explanation about the Global Dignity Day and the importance of living a dignified life, the audiences were entertained with the appearances of Marsya (Indonesian Idol finalist) and also the performance of a group of kids’ band (5-8 y.o.).

The whole sequence of events was indeed closed with a bang! Every one left the building with a smile in their faces. Ready to embark into a dignified life!

This report will be uploaded to the Global Dignity Blog and it will also be distributed to the YCAB’s biweekly news report to our 2,000 friends and supporters.
