Global Dignity Day – India

In Bangalore, India we had a great Dignity Day at Jain Vidyaniketan School yesterday afternoon. I want to thank my colleagues from my company Globals – Ms. Amruta Desai (Executive Vice President, Strategy and Marketing Globals Inc.), Ms. Nisha Mittal (Project Manager) and Mr. Benedikt Dalkmann (Executive, Strategy and Marketing) and my own company Globals, for their continued support and time for making Global Dignity Day a great success.

Since quality education in the modern world is prohibitively expensive many rural children are deprived of good schooling which is their right. Millions are forced by circumstances to be under achievers and sufferers of low self esteem. At present 1800 children from 120 villages of Kanakupara Province in the Bangalore Rural District have been admitted to the primary, middle and high school section. Jain Vidyaniketan creates a window of opportunity for these deserving children from the poorest sections of society, by providing a holistic, high quality education free of cost with an everday mid-day meal scheme for the students to be motivated to attend school by providing them healthy hot meals. This school was part of the prestigious Jain Group of Institutions, which was founded by a Great India Visionary Mr. Chenraj Jain who himself was a dropout from school and had a vision to offer quality free education to millions of children in India who may not be able to afford for a quality education.

In a classroom session (with nearly 100 students) we started out with a short introduction in the special coherences and the general importance of dignity. To clarify the various dimensions of dignity, we asked every student to define the word and to consider a situation, which might be an example in the context of dignity.

It was amazing to recognize that the students directly had a good, exiting and healthy feel for the subject and could inspire to discuss. The students were reflecting about the meaning of words like self-respect, equality and certainly dignity. Furthermore the students told about the live of Mother Theresa and they learned something about the acts and effects of Martin Luther King.

I would like to express my gratitude to the students at Jain Vidyaniketan School for a great learning experience. I hope that the punctual lights of the courses of GD around the world are becoming one and help to broader enlighten the importance of dignity in today’s societies.
